Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our nursery, plants, and practices.

How does ordering work?

We are a grow-to-order nursery. Place your order through our website and we start your plants from seed. Once the weather is right for transplanting (usually mid-May for warm-season crops), we will contact you to arrange pickup or delivery. Ordering early gives us time to grow strong, healthy starts for you.

When is the best time to order?

The earlier the better! We start seeds in late winter and early spring. Ordering in January through March gives us the most time to grow robust plants for the spring planting season. We accept orders throughout the growing season as availability allows.

When is the best time to plant in Big Pine?

The Owens Valley growing season typically runs from late April through October. Cool-season crops (lettuce, peas, brassicas) can go out earlier in spring and again in late summer. Warm-season crops (tomatoes, peppers, squash) should wait until after the last frost, usually mid-May.

How do I get my plants?

Most customers pick up at our place in Big Pine. We also offer local delivery to Owens Valley towns including Bishop, Independence, and Lone Pine. We will coordinate timing with you once your plants are ready.

Can I buy plants without pre-ordering?

Yes! We hold weekend sales days at our home in Big Pine, and we regularly set up at farmers markets in Big Pine and Bishop, CA. We also attend tribal community events like spring markets and Earth Day celebrations. Follow us on social media for dates and locations.

Do you use organic practices?

Yes! We embrace natural and organic gardening practices. We avoid synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, instead relying on compost, beneficial insects, companion planting, and other sustainable methods. Every plant is grown from seed right here in Big Pine.

Do you ship plants?

No — we are local only. Plants are available through pre-order pickup, local delivery, weekend sales at our home, and at farmers markets and community events throughout the Owens Valley.

What if my plants don't survive?

We stand behind the quality of our plants. If you have issues within the first two weeks, reach out and we'll work with you to make it right.

Do you offer garden consulting?

Yes! We offer both full garden consultations and a-la-carte consulting sessions. Check our Services page for details.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, Venmo, and Zelle. Payment is collected at pickup or delivery — not online.
